Story of a Magpie

Inspired by the music of Dimitri Shostakovich – Five Dance Pieces, and Monet in his The Magpie, a story about loss and hope was born.

I. PRELUDE

Winter came early,

everyone had left,

before dawn.

Snow fell quietly

onto the frozen ground, no sound.

I could see nothing, beyond a vast expense of emptiness,

but an existence forlorn.

II. GAVOTTE

A voice whispered

from afar,

echoing in my heart.

I followed it to

the edge of land,

perched on

the tallest tree.

There it was,

on the mirror of

a frozen lake,

the owner of the voice

calling to my soul.

III. Elegy

We were not lost,

not knowing

where we were going.

The sky was home,

home to us

and the clouds.

We bade the past goodbye,

as the land moved under,

carried by wind

along our destined path.

IV. WALTZ

At dusk,

in a forest far away

we found new friends.

They were looking

for spring in winter,

a seemingly impossible dream.

Follow the warmth of the Sun;

follow the light,

so we believed,

in the company

and made the journey.

V. POLKA

Dance,

to the joy of discovery;

to the success of a dream come true.

Celebrate,

the journey and most importantly,

the company,

for it was not fate but love

that created miracles.

Rejoice in every moment,

with a heart of delight.

It is spring in winter,

and all shall be bright.
